Veteran Signings

Mats Sundin will be back in the Blue & White next season after he signed a new 1-year deal worth $5.5 million. He'll be earning less than he did last season in Toronto, but with a little more cap room, the Leafs may be able to swing a deal or two to help Mats out in the scoring department. Toronto is in need of a playoff run and they think Mats is the guy to do it.

Pool-wise, Sundin finished in the Top 50 in points, which should leave him in a second round position... unless you're a foolish Leafs fan and NEED to have him in the first round. Whomever the Leafs get with their new cap money will be the biggest indicator of whether or not Sundin will regain some of his previous career form.

Chris Chelios will return for another season to the Motor City after signing a 1-year deal as well on Tuesday. The oldest player in the league at 45 will have another go after posting big minutes in the playoffs and the regular season for Detroit. The Red Wings will also wait for word on whether or not 42 year-old, Dominik Hasek, will return... word should come by the end of the week.

Chelios only finished with 11 points in 2006/07 and may not be a great prospect for points next year. He did have a big playoff though, but that's the kind of player he is... the numbers go up when the games get more and more important.
