Wednesday's Scratches

Benson's 13th round pick, Drew Stafford, was cut from the line-up on Wednesday night, since he's been having quite a slow start to the season, thus far. Stafford has only picked up 3 points in the team's first 13 games of the season. One game's worth of rest will hopefully kick-start his year. Playing on a pretty gifted team like Buffalo should be enough to register some more points, but the team as a whole hasn't really caught fire just yet.

In Columbus, the team activated Pascal Leclaire from the IR and had him back-up Steve Mason against Phoenix. That meant that Box 16 goalie, Fredrik Norrena, was the odd-man out and had to watch the game from the press box as a healthy scratch. Depending on how the situation in Columbus plays out, Norrena could be one of the next goalies available on the trade rumour mill.

Box 7 forward, Daniel Carcillo, didn't get to play in the game against Columbus, as his offensive work has been lacking this season. Carcillo hasn't registered a point yet in 11 games for Phoenix, which is terribly disappointing. Carcillo was thought to be on the cusp of being a very good offensive weapon, as well as being the super-pest that he is. The coachng staff did have to scratch him a few times last season and he was also sent to the minors for a stint as well.

The return of Viktor Kozlov to the line-up put Box 25 forward, Eric Fehr, back in the press box for yet another game. The long-time Capitals prospect and minor-league player has only figured into 6 games for Washington and has 3 points to show for his efforts. He certainly hasn't been short on production too badly, so it does beg the question as to why he continually sits. He does seem to be at the bottom of the totem pole at the minute, so don't be in a rush to pick him up.
