Tuesday's Bytes

The Senators are continuing to struggle with consistency this season, after taking a 4-3 overtime loss to Florida on Monday night. In that game, the Sens didn't dress Box 27 defenseman, Christoph Schubert, as he sits in the press box for yet another game this season. Schubert has only 4 points in 17 games for the Senators and can't string along a long stretch of being active for games. He could likely be one of the pieces moved if one of the rumoured deals comes to fruition.

The Penguins blueline is still taking quite the kicking this season. Last night versus the Sabres, the Penguins were without Box 28 defenseman, Hal Gill, due to an undisclosed injury. Gill joins Sergei Gonchar, Ryan Whitney and Phillipe Boucher on the shelf as the hurt blueliners. Gill's defensive game is what keeps him in the line-up generally, as it's not his 2 points in 23 games this season.

Blues rookie forward, T.J. Oshie has found himself back on the shelf this week with an ankle injury. Oshie hurt his ankle once already this season and was on the shelf for just about a month before a return. Sadly, it didn't last terribly long as he'll be nursing this injury for another couple games at least. The Box 9 forward hasn't quite got his NHL legs underneath him just yet, scoring only 4 points in 12 games for the Blues.

A pair of injuries have hurt the low, but raised, expectations of the Maple Leafs over the weekend. The Leafs lost the services of Niklas Hagman and Luke Schenn on Saturday, so the team will have to try and make do with some of their depth players. Hagman, a Box 20 forward, is out day-to-day with a concussion, which should keep him out of the line-up until the weekend, at least. He has been one of the bright spots as a solid two-way forward in Toronto. Schenn, a non-pool player this season, has been lost due to a knee sprain, which could keep the young defender out for up to four weeks. Schenn has been Ron Wilson's go-to defensive defenseman, playing against the opposition's top line or superstar forwards. He'll truly be missed while he is away.
