Wednesday Morning Bytes

The Buffalo Sabres learned that they will be without prospect forward Nathan Gerbe for the next couple of weeks because on an upper body injury. Gerbe, a Box 25 forward, was called up to the Sabres a couple of weeks ago to fill in for injured forward, Tim Connolly, and has now suffered an injury of his own. In 5 games with the club, he has registered an assist.

The Colorado Avalanche opted to scratch Ruslan Salei for Tuesday night's game against the Flyers. Salei, a Box 12 defenseman, has only 8 assists in 30 games for the Avs, but their offensive output didn't improve with the scratching, as they lost to Philadelphia 5-2. In Salei's place, Daniel Tjarnqvist dressed, who finished the game with no points as was a -2.

Flyers number one goalie, Martin Biron, didn't dress for the win against Colorado, as he was out with a touch of the flu. The Flyers next game in Thursday night in Montreal, there is no official word as to whether or not Biron will be ready, but look for Antero Niittymaki to get a second straight start if he is not. Also not dressed for the Flyers was Lasse Kukkonen, as he looks to be a healthy scratch on a regular basis again.
