Blues Sign Conklin

The St. Louis Blues have added some goaltending to their roster during the free agent frenzy. They signed Ty Conklin to a new 2-year deal worth $2.6 million in total, a $1.3 million salary cap hit. This should provide some ample back-up for Chris Mason, who didn't fare too badly in net for the Blues in 2009.

The 2009 numbers for Conklin were quite good, as he did get a lot of quality minutes in Detroit, especially when Chris Osgood was hurt for that extended period of time in the season. Conklin managed to register 25 wins and 6 shutouts for the Red Wings in 2009, racking up 62 pool points for himself there. He was only 5 points behind his new teammate, Mason, who had 67 points. The move to St. Louis may hurt both players numbers, if the team decides to platoon the two goalies.

The Blues can now brag to have 19 players signed on for the 2010 season at a cap hit of $45.3 million (approx.).
