Penguins Look to Repeat

The Cup champs are having to re-tool this summer since the salary cap number has finally caught up with them. They have had to let go of a few veteran free agents to keep their young superstars, while having to pick up some cheaper alternatives. Already in this summer are Mike Rupp, Jay McKee and Brent Johnson.

Johnson may be the best of the three fantasy-wise, as the Penguins will likely give Fleury a few more nights off and a goalie behind a superstar team like this should do fairly well. I would expect some bigger numbers from him this year. Both Rupp and McKee are both very defensive minded and likely won't be counted on for points.

The Penguins are almost done with their re-tooling as well. They now have 21 players on their roster and it's come at a pretty reasonable cap cost as well. Their cap number at the moment is $54.2 million, leaving them enough room for a couple young players to advance their way into the line-up. One to look out for is Eric Tangradi... he's expected to make the jump this year.

The Penguins do not have any key RFAs left on their list this summer. There are a few left, but they will be two-way players for depth.
