Olie the Goalie Retires

You know, he may have finished his career as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, via the Tampa Bay Lightning, but let's face it... Olaf Kolzig was a Capitals player through and through. Kolzig, 39, officially retired today from the NHL after having a very injury-plagued season in 2009. He did manage to win a pair of games for the Lightning, but that was all that his season had to offer in bright spots.

In 14 NHL seasons, he played in 719 games with a 303-297-63-24 record with 35 shutouts. That's a very admirable career, even though he was playing on some Capitals teams that were far from being good. In 1998, he backstopped the Capitals to the Cup Finals, only to lose out to the Red Wings in four games.
