Lucic Signs On For Three More

The Boston Bruins have decided to commit themselves to one of their young superstars for another three seasons after this current year. Milan Lucic signed a 3-year extension worth a reported $12.25 million over the duration, which equals a $4.083 million cap hit per season.

Lucic has quickly become a fan favourite in Boston, winning over the crowds with his intense physical play and helping his team win with a bit of a scoring touch as well. In his first two seasons with the Bruins, he has scored 25 goals and 44 assists, also picking up 230 minutes in penalties.

In his first two games of the 2010 season, Lucic has 1 assist and a fighting major to his name.

Salary CapThis contract is another extension, meaning the cap hit won't come into effect until October 2010, so there is no concern for the cap hit this year. The cap number for next season is already sitting at $41 million for only 11 players. The Bruins have a number of young players coming up through the system, including Zach Hamill and Brad Marchand, who should help the salary cap number, if they can finally earn a spot in the line-up. That should justify this deal for Lucic in the end.

For this 2010 season, Lucic has been a pretty popular player, as I'm adding all the teams to the Sheet pool. I would say more than half of the teams went with Lucic in Box 23, so there are big things expected from the young bruiser. In the Draft, Dale B. took a gamble on him in the 11th round (172nd overall), expecting him to increase his rank from 193rd this year.
