Islanders Lose Martinek and Weight

The Islanders lost a good chunk of the blueline depth to injury this weekend, as Radek Martinek has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will now miss the remainder of the 2010 season.

Martinek finishes his season with two goals and an assist in 16 games with the Islanders.

The Islanders have also lost their captain, Doug Weight, to an undisclosed upper-body injury in the same game. Weight is now scheduled to miss at least a week with this injury. He has already missed time this year with a groin injury and was one of the first NHL players to contract the H1N1 swine flu.

Weight has six assists in his only 11 games this season.

ImplicationsBoth players were not taken in the Draft, but both are available in the Sheet pool. Weight wasn't taken in Box 18 of the Sheet pool and his 6 points ranks fairly low, so no one should miss him there. Martinek wasn't taken in Box 28 and his 3 points this season also ranks him fairly low in that box.
