First Sheet Scratches of 2010

An upper-body injury sidelined Box 21 forward, Sergei Samsonov on Saturday night, which forced the Hurricanes to call up Box 25 forward, Zach Boychuk and non-pool forward Jiri Tlusty. He should be considered day-to-day, but with the poor season he's having, there is probably a bit of relief that the team can showcase some of their younger talent.

The Avalanche have lost their big lead in the Northwest Division and it looks like the team has lost their patience with their defensemen, as the healthy scratches have been happening while some of their young talent is poking through. On Saturday night, it was Box 13 defender, Brett Clark, who sat for the game. If the Avs don't pull out of this slide, I would imagine that no defender is safe from a trip to the press box.

Senators' Box 29 defenseman, Alexandre Picard, has drawn the ire of the coaching staff and is finding himself in the press box a little bit more lately. Picard has now been in the press box for the past couple of games as a healthy scratch. Sunday was another afternoon game in the press box, but I would imagine that he'll come back one game soon, but it's hard to say when.

Box 4 forward, Scottie Upshall, reportedly left last night's game against the Red Wings with a lower-body injury, which wasn't disclosed with the nature of the injury. Since the injury is undisclosed, we can't really comment about how long he'll be out, so please... don't ask.
