Tootoo Extends

The Nashville Predators announced on Friday that they re-signed rugged forward, Jordin Tootoo, to a new 2-year deal worth $2.5 million over the duration of the deal. Tootoo was set to become an unrestricted free agent in July before signing this deal.

It's been a bit of a poor season for Tootoo, struggling with injuries, playing only 26 games, scoring 2 goals and 8 assists. He does provide a great 3rd line presence for the team and for that he gets a small raise each year in his salary and cap hit in this new deal.

Salary CapThe Predators are slowly putting together their team for the 2011 season, which has plenty of room for more pieces of the puzzle. With the Tootoo signing, the Preds now have 16 players signed on for the bargain basement price of $38.7 million. That's currently below the projected cap floor, which is supposed to be close to what it is this year, but with still seven players to sign to get there. With the line-up they have at the moment, the annual cap hit that it suggests sits at a mere $43.3 million, so you know that there is a team-enforced budget and we shouldn't expect very much in the way of big moves this coming summer.
