Seidenberg's Injury Required Surgery

It turns out that the wrist laceration injury that Dennis Seidenberg suffered on the weekend was far more serious than originally announced. Seidenberg ended up undergoing surgery to repair a torn tendon on Tuesday and he'll now be out of the Bruins' line-up for up to 8 weeks. Of course, that 8-week period is truly dependent on whether or not the Bruins actually make the playoffs, which isn't quite a slam dunk going into Wednesday's action.

Seidenberg was enjoying a pretty good season in 2010, having 32 points in 79 games played between Carolina and Boston. His 4 goals and 28 assists had him ranked 261st going into the final week of the season, which was up from his end-of-year ranking of 299th in 2009, so the improvement has been noted. He definitely turned enough heads to be a part of the trade deadline day, as he was dealt from Carolina to Boston in the Hurricanes rebuild.

ImplicationsSeidenberg is a member of one key Sheet pool team... Paul W.'s, which leads the Sheet pool in this last week of action. As a defenseman, he wasn't relied upon for big points, but they are definitely bonus points when a team gets them. Paul is the only team in the top four of the Sheet pool to have Seidenberg in Box 29, as that is one of the few boxes where every team is different.

With Boston on the cusp of being in the playoffs, Seidenberg had to be an inviting name in Box 21 of the Playoff Pool sheet. I would now recommend passing over the German-born defenseman and re-evaluate how you are going to get your points in that box. Alex Goligoski or Toni Lydman might be good solutions to a minor problem.
