2010 5th Round Pick

On Thursday afternoon, word came down that the Phoenix Coyotes decided to move Jared Staal, the last of the four Staal brothers, out of the system. The Coyotes dealt him to Carolina, to join the oldest brother, Eric Staal, so the Hurricanes will now have 50% of the family in the NHL.  In return, the Coyotes acquired a 5th round pick in tihs Summer's draft, which doesn't say much to the faith in Jared as a prospect going forward.

In the OHL in 2010, Jared managed 49 points in 59 games with the Sudbury Wolves and then played in 5 games with the Coyotes' AHL affiliate in San Antonio, where he picked up only 1 assist.  Those are not fantastic numbers from the youngest Staal, but with the possibility of playing with his oldest brother might be incentive enough to pick up his game and become a better player.
