Eaves Re-Signs in Detroit

The Red Wings have come to terms with restricted free agent forward Patrick Eaves, signing him to a new 1-year deal worth $750,000 on Wednesday.  Eaves finished playing his first full season with the Red Wings in 2010, scoring 12 goals and adding 10 assists in 65 games with the club.  Eaves ranked 248th among all forwards in the league in scoring, which puts him outside of picking range for my pool, especially with up and coming names throughout the league.  He is a depth player and probably should be considered as one this season.

Salary CapSince the last update, the Red Wings have only added Miller and Eaves to the table and they also have a penalty for going over the salary cap ceiling in 2010, but that's very minor. Currently, I have the Red Wings with 18 players and a penalty for $54.2 million, leaving about $5.2 million remaining for a couple forwards and a couple of defensemen.  Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader and Derek Meech lead the way as restricted free agents in need of a deal, which would sort out a number of their openings.  I think we can all assume that they will sign deals that will help the Red Wings with their cap situation.
