Canucks Add Veterans to Camp Roster

With still a couple of games remaining in their YoungStars tournament, the Canucks have posted the tenative group of veterans that will be in training camp, which opens on Friday with physicals and fitness testing.

The Canucks are sporting some new depth in most places, which will make competition for jobs exceptionally stiff, but I think for the better part of the year, the Canucks will be sporting what I have been posting as their Summer roster, which is the top part of the table below.

Bubble players will include Jannik Hansen, Tanner Glass, Rick Rypien and Darcy Hordichuk up front and Andrew Alberts, Shane O'Brien and Aaron Rome on the blueline.  I don't think these seven are locks for their jobs, but I still think they have jobs to lose, instead of win.

Salary CapThere is still the matter of determining some cap numbers for the start of the regular season, because the team that occupies the Summer roster spots, plus one buyout, not taking into account the possible injury reserve discounts, comes in at an annual figure of $62.5 million.  Also in need of consideration for this number, there are 24 players on this list, including the two injured players who will start the year on the IR, so this number is still up for debate for the time being.

There is still plenty of speculation as to who is going to fill the spots left behind by the two injured players, but unless there is a strong showing by any replacement, I would think that Burrows and Salo will be back in the line-up when their injuries are healed and they are ready to come back.  Burrows likely back in November and Salo is out until Christmas time, at the earliest.  Until most of that is sorted out, I think we'll have to play wait-and-see to what the coaching staff has in mind for the roster.
