Ducks Re-Sign Bobby Ryan

As of Friday, the Ducks had Bobby Ryan on the bubble with the rest of their training camp extras, but that has changed on Tuesday.  Ryan and the Ducks finally agreed upon a new deal, which will keep him in Anaheim for the long-term.  The deal has been reported as a 5-year deal, worth $25.5 million in total, a $5.1 million cap hit per season.

Ryan was one of the top restricted free agents this Summer, according to scoring numbers, picking up 35 goals and 29 assists (64 points) in 81 games for the Ducks in 2010.  That was good enough for 60th in league scoring, 43rd among forwards and that should translate into another high pick for Ryan at this year's draft.  In last year's draft, Ryan was a 3rd round pick, 38th overall.

Salary CapThe last piece of business, since we're already doing training camp rosters, is how his deal will affect the Ducks and their annual cap number. Ryan's new $5.1 million cap hit was in the neighbourhood of what I expected and now brings the Summer roster annual total up to $51.5 million.  That leaves the team about $7.9 million left for three defensemen, which are needed to round out the roster... in theory.
