Stajan Separates Shoulder

The injury bug took another big bite out of the Flames on Tuesday night, as Matt Stajan was lost to the team in the split-squad game in Vancouver with a separated shoulder. The immediate word from the club is that he will be out of action indefinitely, without a timetable for a return.  Stajan was penciled in as the team's number two centre going into the year, with some first line upside in some possible line-shifting, but number two at the very least.

The separated shoulder has been bad enough to keep players out of their team's line-up for upwards of three months and with the timetable not being known for Stajan, I would imagine that three months would be a reasonable 'worst-case scenario.'

According to the article I read this afternoon, it looks like Mikael Backlund does have a spot on the club, taking over Stajan's spot in the line-up for the time being, so it will be his time to shine, which should translate into some points.

Stajan has already been included on the Selection Sheet, which went live on the weekend, he currently resides in Box 3, but with this injury has now become a land mine.  If you choose him and the season starts, you will have to burn a trade to get rid of him.  This should be considered fair warning.
