Stars Waive Players to Trim Roster to 28

With news that the Dallas Stars have placed five of their training camp members on waivers on Sunday, this now leaves the team with 28 players on their roster, leaving only minimal cuts left to polish off their opening night roster.

The Stars are currently looking very healthy at the moment and have a pretty good crop of players to choose from going into the last full week of camp.  I would be looking to see the final cuts look like one goalie, two defensemen and three or four forwards.  Even if it were the last numbers off the roster below, there are some decent names being taken off, so I would be hesitant to gamble on many of these names at the moment.

This week, the Stars have three preseason games, which will likely be very important for all the fringe players involved.  Their season gets started October 8th in New Jersey.

UPDATE (1:33PM): The Dallas Stars released their roster to show 30 players, with some of the waived players still on the roster. Waiving them obviously didn't mean they were going to be sent down, but it does give them the option if they do clear in the next 30 days. The updated roster is below.

The Stars' 30-man roster, plus their residual cap hit from Sean Avery now leaves them at an annual cap projection of $56.1 million, well below the cap ceiling. With six or seven cuts still to come, the Stars should be around the team's budget, which was disclosed at some point, but I don't have it handy at the moment.
