Streit Out Indefinitely

The worst case scenario has hit the Islanders with their injury to Mark Streit, as they have now scheduled the Swiss defender for major shoulder surgery, which should keep him out of the line-up for upwards of six months. That will all but end his regular season and without Streit in the line-up, the likelihood of challenging for the playoffs has now taken a major hit.

ImplicationsStreit may have been one of the potentials in the top Eastern Conference defenseman box, if you didn't like player like Sergei Gonchar, Chris Pronger or Mike Green.  Streit was also likely going to be a top defenseman pick in the draft, to which he'll now sit without being picked this year (in theory), taking the quality of offensive defensemen down a notch or two.
