de Haan Back to Juniors

The Islanders have made their final cuts to their roster, which included sending Calvin de Haan back to his junior team, which has now eliminated another player from the selection sheet pool today.  de Haan is a member of Box 30 on the selection sheet, but since he is going down to his junior club, he won't be able to re-join the big club until his junior team is eliminated from the playoffs.

The Islanders also sent Matt Martin down to the minors, who has no pool placement this year and also had four players added to the injured reserve, which leaves the team with 27 players on their team table.

The remaining roster on the table looks like so...

Salary CapEven with their injured players on the books, the Islanders have plenty of room underneath the salary cap ceiling, so there is no worries here. I'm sure Streit and Okposo will give the team some cap discounts down the line, but frankly, that's not even necessary. I have the Islanders without cap discounts with 27 players and two buyouts for $49.2 million. You can apply whatever discounts you like and they would have more fears about going below the cap floor before anything else.

It's impressive to see Nino Niederreiter make the team, as he should provide some flash and dash to the line-up, which I believe makes the team a little better on his merits alone. The Islanders should be a pretty competitive team, but their question marks in numerous places, including on the blueline, may keep them below the playoffs for another year.  They are moving in the right direction though.
