Pavelec Collapses in Opener

Scary moment in Atlanta, as Thrashers goalie Ondrej Pavelec collapsed on the ice for no apparent reason, while the the play was in the Washington end. Pavelec was taken off the ice on a stretcher and rushed to the nearest hospital. The good news is that he is in stable condition and had to stay overnight under observation, but the nature of why he collapsed has still not be officially released.

Here is hoping that Pavelec will be okay and he'll return to game action soon.

ImplicationsIn the draft, Stuart will now be down a goalie for a while, as he had taken a gamble on Pavelec to be the number one guy for the Thrashers to start the season or at least get a job platooning with fellow keeper, Chris Mason.

On the selection sheet, you'll find Pavelec in Box 32 of the selection sheet, behind his teammate Mason for Atlanta.  I had the feeling that Mason would get the bulk of the reps in net, which will be true now, but looked rather sketchy with Pavelec getting the opening night start.
