Sheet Player News (Oct 9)

Box 12 defenseman Andy Sutton left last night's opening game against the Red Wings with an undisclosed injury early on in the 3rd period. The reports are now saying that Sutton suffered a broken thumb with Wings defenseman Ruslan Salei, which will now likely keep the defenseman out of the line-up for 3-to-4 weeks. Since it is his thumb that suffered the injury, the grip on the stick is very dependent on the thumb, so he'll likely take the maximum amount of time to recover.

Let the scratching begin for Fabian Brunnstrom and the Dallas Stars. Brunnstrom re-signed with the club in the off-season for much less than his over-hyped value in 2008 and he now starts the season in the press box, as the Stars took on (and beat) the Devils.  This is not a good sign for the Swede and if it wasn't for the Dallas' shady depth at the forward position, I bet Brunnstrom wouldn't even be on the sheet.

The Red Wings blueline took a bit of a hit on Friday night, as Jonathan Ericsson left the game in the 1st period with back spasms. Ericsson only played in five minutes of hockey on Friday night before leaving the game and he will now be held out of the line-up until he is deemed 100%. The Box 14 defenseman is still poised to make a bit of a splash with the Red Wings, likely picking up more and more minutes this season, but he'll have to get healthy again before he can start thinking about that.
