Pronger Gone for 6 Weeks

A mighty blow to the Philadelphia Flyers came down on Friday, as the tests on Chris Pronger's injured foot were not positive, rather quite the opposite. Pronger's foot required surgery, which he had done on Friday and his prognosis for a return is not for 4-to-6 weeks. The Flyers currently sit atop the NHL standings and Pronger has to be considered one of the big reasons to their success.  His anticipated return won't be until the end of January now.

Pronger currently ranks 25th among defensemen in pool scoring this season with 4 goals and 12 assists in 31 games, which is also good for 192nd in the league in scoring.  Pronger's offensive numbers are down this year, but with so much scoring going on up front, it really wasn't an issue with the club.  What the Flyers will miss the most is Pronger's defensive presence and physical play, which they likely won't get the same production out of from the player that will take his place.

ImplicationsA 6-week absence will likely put a dent in Ryan M.'s hopes for cracking the money positions right away, as he goes into Friday's action in 6th place, 13 points out of the money.  Ryan is also holding onto the lead for Week Eleven scoring, trying to capture his 2nd Mover and Shaker nod of the season.  He does have a sizable lead going into the weekend, but it is also the time when most of the games are played, so he'll be waiting on pins and needles.
