Sheet Player News (Dec 28)

Box 14 defenseman Rostislav Klesla was somewhat of a surprise scratch for the Blue Jackets on Monday night, as the veteran defenseman has been enjoying a nice rebound season. He did not dress for the club against the Wild and there was no real explanation as to why, so the first assumption is a healthy scratch, but a close second is the flu. Nevertheless, I don't expect him out of the line-up for very long.

The Colorado Avalanche welcomed Milan Hejduk back into their line-up on Monday night after he spent a few games away with a groin injury. This meant that the Avalanche had to sit someone from their regular roster to make room and it was Brandon Yip, a Box 8 forward, who found his way up to the press box for the game against Detroit.  Yip was lights out at the end of last season, but has only shown flashes of that great play this year, so his eventual time in the press box does seem warranted.

A lower-body injury forced Box 4 forward Alex Ponikarovsky out of the Kings line-up for Monday's game against the Sharks and his team really didn't miss the Russian forward, as they shut out San Jose 4-0. It really hasn't been the season Ponikarovsky was likely hoping for, as he's found little chemistry with his new teammates and has been a bit of a bust on the scoresheet.

It was another trip up to the press box for Box 29 defenseman Bruno Gervais, as he was a healthy scratch yet again for the Islanders. Gervais hasn't played in a great deal of games this season and his veteran status on the team doesn't seem to carry much meaning, which would lead me to believe that he'll be trade bait before the season's end.

A lower-body injury suffered on Thursday night was the reason why Torrey Mitchell was not in the line-up for the Sharks against the Kings on Monday night. The Box 7 forward was not able to practice after the holiday break and was therefore unable to go on Monday. He's considered day-to-day for the time being.
