Sore Knee for Evander Kane

After blocking a shot with his knee on Tuesday, Evander Kane was not able to go on Thursday night when the Thrashers took on the Penguins. Kane has been able to skate over the past couple days and is considered to be questionable for Saturday night's game in Washington, likely going to be a game-time decision.

Kane has been very good for the Thrashers and a big reason why the team has been doing so well in the Eastern Conference playoff race early on in the season.  The sophomore winger has scored 9 goals and added 7 assists in his first 25 games this season, unofficially ranking him 116th in pool scoring going into Friday night's action, which is well up on his 2010 ranking of 322nd overall.  At Kane's current pace, he should be good for about 50 points, if he plays in 80 games this year, which is a very good season by anyone's standards, especially at 19 years old.

ImplicationsKane belongs to the now-surging Stacey in the draft pool this year, who now ranks 11th in the standings, thanks to a pretty good start to the week, with 26 points.  Stacey should be glad about getting this big week now, instead of before the waiver draft, as he is now poised to take a pretty good run at the second jersey prize in the second segment of the year.  Missing out on a game or two from Kane won't hurt his season, because he's already out-pacing most expectations.
