Voracek Scratched

It was a little bit of a shock to see Jakub Voracek as the healthy scratches for the Blue Jackets on Monday night, but there he was, listed as a member of the press box for a night. The Jackets were taking on the Wild in their second game from the holiday break and their young scoring forward was indeed scratched with Rostislav Klesla and Derek Dorsett.

Like I had mentioned in the earlier post with Klesla, there was no mention of injury or flu anywhere in the night, so a healthy scratch had to be the most likely.  I did see a tweet last night, which actually got confirmation that there wasn't a trade looming, which should be considered a reasonable guess.

This is Voracek's third full season with the Blue Jackets and he's slowly finding his own way to generate offense and be successful in the NHL, which is seemingly tough to do in Columbus, among the defensive strategy employed by the coaching staff.  So far in the 2011 season, Voracek has played 35 games and has scored 6 goals and 14 assists for 20 points, ranking him 161st in pool scoring going into Week Thirteen.  His numbers are down a bit, in terms of scoring pace, but patience has to be given to a kid who is likely still dealing with a new coach and system this year.

ImplicationsStill, 20 points is hardly anything to really sneeze at.  Dale B. managed to pick up Voracek in the 8th round, 143rd overall in the pool and his 161st ranking doesn't look too bad at the moment.  Dale does sit in 14th position in the pool after Monday night's action, so a little more offense would likely be appreciated down the stretch.
