Sheet Player News (Feb 12)

Box 14 defenseman Nick Boynton spent a second straight game in the press box on Friday night, continuing his spotty attendance record in the Blackhawks line-up this season. I think it's fair to say that Boynton is the odd-man out on the Chicago blueline and that kind of situation leads to a possible deal out of town at the deadline. The Blackhawks could be more like sellers than buyers, but they still have a couple weeks to make a push for that.

Despite some injuries to some depth players, it appears that Rob Schremp was the odd-man out of the Islanders line-up on Friday night, being a healthy scratch for Slap Shot Night at the Nassau Coliseum. It was a pretty unfortunate night to miss, as the Penguins and Islanders played in an over-the-top slugfest, which will no doubt hand out some suspensions. Oh yeah, the Islanders also scored nine goals, so Schremp really missed out on those numbers too.

Very reminiscent to just over a year ago, Jonas Gustavsson, while playing for the Marlies in the AHL on a conditioning stint, left a game with an elevated heart rate and was kept out of the remainder of the game for precautionary reasons.  Gustavsson did see a specialist this week and before it was all said and done, he underwent his third career heart ablation surgery, which will now put him on the Injured Reserve for a few weeks.  The surgery isn't considered major, but I believe last season, the recovery time of getting back on the ice was a few weeks.
