Notes from St. Louis

The St. Louis Blues started out the night, already without a defenseman, as Carlo Colaiacovo was held out of the line-up with an illness, to which he'll be considered to be day-to-day and then the team ended up losing Patrik Berglund to a lower-body injury in the game as well.  The severity of Berglund's injury is still not known quite yet, so he'll be day-to-day for now.

Colaiacovo has not had a great season, dealing with injuries and other ailments this year, only figuring into 56 games this year, limiting his point production to 23 (5 goals and 18 assists).  I imagine he'll be back before too long, but it won't likely help the Blues' cause, since they are nearly mathematically eliminated from the playoffs now.

Berglund, on the other hand, has seen some reasonable improvements in his numbers, scoring 18 goals and adding 27 assists in 73 games this season, making a bid to be a better pool pick next season.  If Berglund has to shut it down for the final nine games, he can hold his head high.

ImplicationsThe loss of Colaiacovo didn't help Benson G.'s cause to move himself back into 4th place, but his team is off to a good start through two days this week, picking up 3 points on 4th place, now sitting only 4 points behind.  We have to expect to see Colaiacovo back after this illness, so it does get a bit better going forward.
