Pronger Undergoes Hand Surgery

The Flyers announced on Monday afternoon that All-Star defenseman Chris Pronger will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a hand injury that he had suffered last week.  The injury was thought to just be a bruise, but the reports are now saying that Pronger will have a screw inserted into the injured area of his hand to help expedite the healing process.

The initial prognosis is that Pronger should be ready to re-join the line-up in 3-to-4 weeks, which could mean the end of his regular season, since it comes to an end four weeks from yesterday (Sunday).

If his season has come to an end, it doesn't finish with great numbers, thanks to a number of injuries. Pronger only played in 50 games this season, picking up 4 goals and 21 assists for 25 points, finishing Week Twenty-Three in 295th in pool scoring overall, 50th among defensemen. Of course, all of the rankings will drop with four weeks remaining in the season.

ImplicationsWell, already missing out on 20 games this season from Pronger, Ryan M. has held on as best as he could, narrowly falling out of the top 10 last week, falling down to 12th spot, only 3 points out of getting back into the top half of the standings.  Could be a tough sell without a big player like Pronger though.  In terms of the segment race, Ryan sits in 5th spot, 28 points out of 1st.
