Sheet Player News (Mar 18)

Much like Chris Clark before him, Box 28 defenseman Craig Rivet is also another one of those constant healthy scratches this season, between both the Sabres and the Blue Jackets. Rivet was scratched again on Thursday night for the game against the Red Wings, a game that didn't produce a win for Columbus.  Only a few more weeks left of having to write about either one of these characters coming back on the news page.

After leaving Tuesday night's game against the Capitals, Canadiens Box 24 forward Jeff Halpern was held out of the contest on Thursday against the Lightning.  The depth centre's status for the rest of the weekend has not been disclosed as of yet, but call-ups were made to help fill the gaps left behind by injury.  Halpern wasn't a popular player on the sheet, so I don't expect to see much of a difference in the standings here.

Even with a number of injuries on their blueline, the Flyers had opted to scratch Box 14 defenseman Nick Boynton, in order to dress young non-pool player Erik Gustafsson in his stead.  Boynton was acquired by the Flyers to give them some added depth on the blueline towards and into the playoffs, but being scratched for a rookie isn't exactly giving off any confidence that he is going to see much action.

Leafs defenseman Mike Komisarek through a big hit against the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night and ended up missing his intended target, slamming himself into the boards and suffered a lower-body injury in the process.  On Thursday night, he was unable to go against the Florida Panthers and he should now be considered out day-to-day with his lower-body ailment.  The Box 30 defenseman has not been too good, production-wise, this year, and thus isn't very popular.

Scary moment for Box 8 forward Manny Malhotra on Wednesday night, as a deflected shot caught him in the face, up around his left eye.  Malhotra had to undergo immediate eye surgery, although the nature of the actual procedure has still yet to be disclosed.  Malhotra was to see an eye specialist on Thursday night and his condition will likely be updated before the Canucks play on Friday night, home to the Coyotes.
