Draft Player News (Apr 9)

A head injury, of the vague variety, kept Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson out of the second half of a home and home, an injury that he suffered in the first half of the series. I would imagine that his participation in the season finale, Sunday at home to the Oilers, is doubtful.  Johnson has likely finished his season with 29 points in 77 games, good enough for 291st in pool scoring, going into Saturday night.

Johnson belongs to Stacey C. in the draft, who can't finish much higher than 11th in the standings this year, will likely miss Johnson for that reason.  Not to say 11th place is very glamourous or anything, I'm just saying.

An injury suffered in the pre-game warm-up was enough to make Devin Setoguchi into a late scratch for the Sharks in their first half of a home and home against the Coyotes on Friday night. Apparently the reports on Saturday morning suggest that Setoguchi had suffered a pretty bad bout of cramps, so I would imagine that he would be considered a game-time decision tonight against the Coyotes to finish their season.

Setoguchi belongs to Wes M. this year and a return may help him to jump into 8th place from 9th before it is all said and done.  Wes goes into Saturday only 6 points out of 8th, 11 points out of 7th, but we might be talking some outside shots here.

A lower-body injury is a slight concern for the Lightning's Victor Hedman, who sat out of Friday night's game against the Panthers. If the contest for the Lightning on Saturday means that they could possibly clinch 4th place in the conference, there is a good chance they might dress Hedman, but resting the big defender might be in their best interest, making sure he gets some sufficient rest for his injury.

Hedman belongs to our runaway leader in the draft, so Allan S. really wouldn't mind if Hedman rested in the last game of the season, because he has already won the pool.
