After a long training camp and preseason on a professional tryout, Ray Emery has finally signed a 1-year deal to play with the Chicago Blackhawks, likely to back up number one goalie Cory Crawford. Emery signed a 1-year deal, which is a one-way deal, reportedly worth $600,000 for the year. Emery returned to the NHL after a stint in the KHL and some major hip surgery last season with the Anaheim Ducks, playing well while Jonas Hiller was down and out with his vertigo problems. Emery recorded 7 wins with the Ducks in his return and could now be poised for a lot more action, assuming that he stays healthy in the back-up role.
It was almost a sucker's bet not to put Emery on the selection sheet, so he is there in Box 16, finally getting a player decision right on this sheet this season. Emery beat out prospect Alexander Salak for the back-up job, which would have been embarrassing if he had lost the job interview. Feel free to pick Emery on the sheet, if you wish.
