Draft Player News (Oct. 20)

An update was provided on New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur on Wednesday, as he is now expected to miss at least the next week to 10 days with the shoulder injury that has already forced him to miss one start already.

Brodeur was injured in the game against the Kings while making a sliding save, popping his shoulder in the process.  No surgery will be needed on the injury, but the ageing legend isn't healing like some of his younger counterparts, so he'll need an extra few days to get himself better.

This isn't great news for Derek W. in the draft, but of course, the news could be much worse, so there has to be a level of relief that it isn't any worse.  On the opposite side, Dale C. is enjoying the idea that he will get a few more starts from Johan Hedberg, who works in Brodeur's stead.  Derek is currently hanging in 13th spot, while Dale is in 4th, but when the goaltending finally reverts back to normal, we might see this gap get closed off.

Things haven't gone the way that Cody Franson expected them to since being acquired by the Leafs from the Predators in the Summer. Franson thought he would be a lock for the top six, but he has struggled to see some regular time as the seventh defenseman and on Wednesday night against the Jets, he was back up in the press box as a healthy scratch.

Franson belongs to Clayton C. in the pool, who has dropped down to 8th place in the standings and it isn't because of his defensemen.  Currently, Clayton's team is tied for 4th among all teams in the pool for blueline points with 11, but it would have obviously been better if Franson was in the line-up.
