Kennedy Suffering Concussion Symptoms

Not very good news coming out of the Pittsburgh Penguins camp on Monday, as it appears that they have lost forward Tyler Kennedy to a concussion, after reporting to have concussion-like symptoms when the team touched down in Winnipeg, just before their game against the Jets on Monday night.  If the symptoms do lead to the diagnosis of a concussion, Kennedy will have to miss the next week worth of action and then be re-evaluated again, under the protocol for dealing with concussions that is league-wide.

This is not great news for the Penguins, who are already reeling against injuries to their top players, as Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are still on the shelf and have no time table for returning at the moment.  Losing out on Kennedy will only compound the problem going forward.

Kennedy was off to an okay start, considering the lack of talent that wasn't there to help him out down the middle, scoring a goal and 2 assists in the first six games of the season.  Of course, if he was able to have a bit more help, he probably would have been scoring at a better clip, but he had to make do with what he had.

ImplicationsAnother big injury problem for Ryan M. will not make the start of his season any easier, as he now sits in the bottom spot in the standings and has already lost ground this week, now 3 points behind 21st spot going into Tuesday's action.  Ryan is now seeing another name hit the injury list, this is now his fourth player on the list and he'll need to get healthy before he starts any sort of ascent up the ladder.
