Sheet Player News (Oct 6)

The Edmonton Oilers pared down their roster to the league maximum of 23 players on Wednesday and in order to do that, they had to put Ladislav Smid on the Injured Reserve, as he is currently working to come back from a shoulder injury. Smid is currently listed as out week-to-week, which could mean just about anything at this point, but the team will check back with him on a weekly basis. Smid may look attractive in Box 12 of the pool, since the Oilers are likely going to be an offensive power house this year, but hold off on him for now.

Also starting the season on the Injured Reserve is Jets forward Eric Fehr, who underwent off-season shoulder surgery and has been struggling to get himself ready for opening night.  There doesn't appear to be a timetable for Fehr's return to action anywhere and the Jets open their season on Sunday afternoon against the Canadiens, then not playing their second game until Thursday.  I would consider Fehr day-to-day for right now, since he should be on the back end of his recovery, but I wouldn't pick up Fehr right away from Box 23.
