Concussion Sidelines Alfredsson

After taking an ugly elbow on Saturday afternoon against the New York Rangers, Daniel Alfredsson missed out on Sunday's game against the Maple Leafs and then was diagnosed with a concussion on Monday, which means he'll miss at least a week's worth of action, under the NHL concussion protocol.  Of course, the week is just the minimum and Alfredsson will have to pass some baseline tests after the week is up, checking to see how well he has progressed in that time.

Alfredsson was off to a pretty decent start in the month of October, before suffering his injury, scoring 4 goals and 3 assists in 10 games, which is currently good enough for 120th in pool scoring this season.  Alfredsson has been used in many clutch situations for the Senators and as their captain, he'll certainly be missed in the line-up.

ImplicationsIn the draft, Alfredsson belongs to the 2nd place team in the standings, belonging to Clayton C., who took the Swedish veteran 194th overall in the 9th round, making him into an immediate bargain this season.

Clayton goes into Tuesday's action 6 points back of 1st place and only 2 points up on 3rd place, which is some pretty close quarters, not to have a bargain player like Alfredsson in the line-up.  The rest of the team will have to pick up some slack for the loss in Week Five.
