Sheet Player News (Jan. 8)

Not many details available on this one, but it appears that Flames forward Brendan Morrison has suffered an upper-body injury, which kept him out of Saturday night's game against the Wild. Morrison has not had a good 2012 season, to date, having only played 26 games, scoring 4 goals and 7 assists. Surely, there were some better expectations for the centre in his second season in Calgary, but injuries have really caught up to him, limiting his ice-time.  He is currently listed as out day-to-day, so take that as you will.

An apparent back problem was harsh enough to keep Dustin Penner out of the Kings line-up on Saturday afternoon, as they took on the Blue Jackets.  According to the team, Penner woke up with a stiff back and wasn't able to walk very well.  This definitely doesn't look very good on Penner, who isn't having a very good season either, having played 30 games, scoring 2 goals and 6 assists.  The power forward has been everything but what his title suggests for the Kings and likely will be in the dog house for a little while.  If the Kings could move him, I don't think they would hesitate.

An undisclosed "mid-body" injury has grounded Alex Burmistrov, as he was unable to play on Saturday night against the Buffalo Sabres.  There are very few details about this injury, but the Jets are going to have to deal without him for a little while, by the look of things.  We'll call the Box 22 forward day-to-day for right now and if there are any more updates, I'm sure they will be reported, if necessary.  In 38 games, the young Russian forward has 8 goals and 9 assists, which is about middle of the pack, in terms of his box scoring.
