Sheet Player News (Feb. 23)

I don't think it is hard to believe that Dustin Penner's days are numbered with the Los Angeles Kings, as he has now found his way back into the team's press box on Wednesday night. He had been called out by coach Darryl Sutter over the weekend and didn't perform and with another trip upstairs, I would truly believe that the Kings would be looking to dump him somewhere, anywhere.  Of course, Penner's $4.25 million annual contract may not be attractive to many teams, but he is an unrestricted free agent in July, so that may help a team that wants to help the Kings out a little bit.  In 44 games, Penner has 5 goals and 8 assists.

It sounds like the Capitals are getting some bites on a possible deal for veteran defenseman Roman Hamrlik, so the team decided to make the 37-year old blueliner into a healthy scratch, just to preserve their asset for a prospective buyer.  Hamrlik has struggled this season with the Capitals, only picking up 10 points (2 goals and 8 assists) in 55 games for the team.  Hamrlik has an annual cap hit of $3.5 million and has another season on it, so I think if there is any buyer out there, they are thinking that they can get some better numbers out of Hamrlik and that he would be a good pick-up for a playoff run.
