Injury Updates (Sep 28)

Another one of the injury-prone players on the list was taken out of their game last night, for precautionary measures, as Stephen Weiss, one of the new faces on the Detroit Red Wings this season, left in the 2nd period against the Maple Leafs with a groin injury.  The Red Wings have been dealing with all kinds of injury concerns in this preseason and it should come as no surprise that Weiss does fall to a slight injury.

Like a lot of players who have hit the blog with minor knocks already, I would imagine that Weiss will be shutdown for a time, just to save himself for opening night, which for Detroit, is Wednesday night, at home to Buffalo.

Weiss was Stuart's 8th round pick in the draft, 189th overall, as he was searching for a bit of a bargain with one of his last few forwards.  Weiss was Stuart's 6th forward taken, chosen before any of his goaltenders, so there will be an onus on Weiss to pick up the slack that will be left behind by a couple of back-up goalies on his roster.

Guess what! Another minor groin injury in this NHL preseason, as the Ottawa Senators have said that their new captain, Jason Spezza, is now dealing with a minor groin problem and this will likely keep him off the ice for a little while, preparing for the regular season.

From what I've read this morning, doesn't seem to be any real reason to worry.

Not a good day for Stuart, who has some groin concerns now with two players on this blog today.  Spezza was Stuart's 2nd round pick, 45th overall, looking for a bounce back year after an injury-plagued 2013 season.

Kristopher Letang is now scheduled to have the whole weekend off, get evaluated and then the team will assess the problem, as the Pittsburgh Penguins are currently sweating a few bullets, awaiting the news on their top defenseman.

According to the team, Letang is dealing with a lower-body injury (groin, perhaps?) and the early language does not suggest any confidence about his opening night status.  Now this has reason to worry, until the team makes their official announcement.

Things are going from bad to worse for Stuart, who has now added his 3rd round pick, 52nd overall, to the list of players on the injury list.  This one sounds more significant and will get a proper update, if it is for any long-term.
