Two Game Suspension For Grabner

The NHL Department of Player Safety handed out a pair of suspensions on Monday afternoon, but only one of them applied to anyone in the pool, so we'll look at that one.

Michael Grabner of the New York Islanders was handed a 2-game suspension from Brendan Shanahan and his department for his illegal check to the head of Carolina's Nathan Gerbe on Saturday.  The video below will give you the entire explanation.

Grabner started the week 60th in pool scoring, with 2 goals and 6 assists in his first eight games, playing well for the Islanders, who appear to be continuing their franchise upswing in the early part of this season.  A couple games is disruptive, but shouldn't be too bad for his overall season.

The Islanders will be able to welcome Grabner back to their line-up on Saturday, as they host the Philadelphia Flyers.

ImplicationsGrabner belongs to Dale C. this season, who took him in the 11th round, 263rd overall, so he is already seeing some high returns on the young speedster.  Dale started the week in 10th place, 7 points out of the prizes, but likely won't see much of a drop with the loss of Grabner.  The suspension is way too short to make that much of a difference.

You can tell that the intensity of the league is starting to pick up, as the suspensions keep on rolling in.  These players are looking for just about any edge possible, even finding some illegal checks along the way.
