Injury Updates (Sep 21)

A groin issue is going to limit the participation of Valeri Nichushkin in camp for the Dallas Stars. On Saturday, it was reported that he will be missing the next few days on the ice with the injury, which will include a few preseason games missed as well. Last season, Nichushkin had a decent rookie campaign, scoring 14 goals and 34 points in 79 games for Dallas and with the changes that have been made in the off-season, there are going to be some big expectations for that club to do well, including the 19-year old sophomore.  Nichushkin will be listed as out day-to-day for right now, but he may be a player to watch in the mid-to-late rounds.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are doing their best to calm the nerves of their fans, calling the upper-body injury to star rookie Jonathan Drouin, not a long-term thing.  Drouin was held off the ice on Saturday and will likely be held out of the team's scrimmages on Sunday, due to the injury, but it doesn't sound like they will hold him back for too long.  He played through the entire rookie camp, picked up a couple knocks, but should be healthy again, before too long.

You know these training camps are really ramping up, when players are suffering injuries blocking shots in practice. Derek Stepan of the New York Rangers will take some time off in this preseason, after suffering a foot contusion in the process. This certainly should be a minor injury and shouldn't keep the dynamic forward off the ice for very long. There's no need to push Stepan at this point, it sounds like he is ready to get going on this regular season.

Another star rookie sitting while their team scrimmages on Sunday, Chicago Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen sits with an upper-body injury. The Blackhawks haven't said anything more on Twitter about the injury, just that the 20-year old Finn won't be participating today. With that being said, he'll be on the list as being out day-to-day and we'll see how that goes from there. Teravainen is one of the more interesting rookie names on the list this year, having played three regular season games at the end of last year, he didn't look out of place, despite not picking up any points.
