Player Notes in the Draft (Oct 9)

An upper-body injury kept Los Angeles defenseman Jake Muzzin out of the line-up on opening night against the Sharks and by the look of things, they could have used him, as the defense was almost non-existant in a 4-0 loss.  Muzzin was a productive member of the Stanley Cup winning team last Spring, but raising the banner didn't help his team too much, as they were flat and lifeless to start the season.  Muzzin is considered to be day-to-day and questionable for Saturday night, when the team travels to Glendale to take on the Coyotes.

Stacey M. takes a quick man game loss on opening night, but her team still came away with a couple of points to start the season, which isn't too bad.  She finished the night in 8th place in the standings, looking for a strong start to Week One.

photo callosmtlphitorvan.jpgAs expected, we had a number of returnees to their respective line-ups on opening night, as a lot of teams held out players from some preseason action, making sure that they were ready for game number one and their hockey pool season.  Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan were both in the line-up for the Flames against the Canucks, both were dealing with flu symptoms.  Marian Gaborik dressed for Los Angeles against the Sharks, he had an undisclosed injury keeping him off the preseason ice.  A lower-body injury ended PA Parenteau's preseason a little early, but didn't keep him from opening night for Montreal.  Wayne Simmonds' foot problem wasn't a problem in the end, as he dressed for the Flyers against the Bruins.  Phil Kessel dressed for the Leafs, he was held out of some action with a lower-body injury.  Finally, Kevin Bieksa was a game-time decision for the Canucks, but he wasn't going to miss a game against the Flames, upper-body injury or not.
