Fringe Signings (June 19)

On Thursday, the Ottawa Senators put pen to paper with forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau, giving him a 2-year deal, both years will be one-way, with a cap hit of $900,000 per season.  Last season, Pageau appeared in 50 games for the Sens, scoring 10 goals and 19 points, which isn't too far away from being pool worthy, meaning the 22-year old forward is inching closer to being involved in the hockey pool on a regular basis.  Currently, I have Pageau ranked 206th among all signed forwards for next season, not too far from the top 184, which would have made him pool worthy last year.  If the pool gets much deeper, he could be guy that figures in.

A full-time gig with the Winnipeg Jets would get Ben Chiarot much closer to being pool worthy as well, as his 8 points in 40 games wasn't too bad, just not enough games played at that scoring rate to be good enough.  On Thursday, Chiarot signed a 2-year deal with the Jets, thought to be worth around $850,000 per season.  The depth on the Winnipeg blueline is pretty good, so it will be tough to break through, but if he does, you know there is a reason for him to be there and he could find himself being an okay pick as your last defenseman next season.
