Camp Demotions (Sep 25)

This shouldn't really come as much of a surprise, but Zach Boychuk has failed to make the opening night roster yet again in Carolina and on Friday, he was placed on waivers for the purpose of being sent down to the AHL.  Boychuk was projected for only 10 points, so he wasn't expected to make any splashes in the hockey pool this year, but with Carolina's depth coming into question, this could very well have been his year to at least make the team.  Instead, some youth will likely be served on the team, which should end up being a kid like Sergei Tolchinsky.

Another demotion that really lacks surprise, especially given the depth of the position on the team, as defenseman Duncan Siemens was demoted from the Colorado Avalanche camp on Friday morning, heading to the AHL.  With the arrival of Nikita Zadorov from the Sabres at the beginning of the off-season and Brandon Gormley coming from the Coyotes a few weeks ago, the race for the last spot on the blueline became extra tight.  As Siemens drops off, so does his projections for the year.

The Columbus Blue Jackets made a number of cuts on Friday, bringing their camp roster down to 35 players for the last week and a half of camp.  Included in those cuts, sending them to the AHL, were Sonny Milano and Oliver Bjorkstrand, two of their top prospects.

Milano was the only one of the two with a projection for the coming year, but since they are only heading down to the minors, they could be back up with the team before too long, if the unforeseen happens during the year.  I have both players picking up 10 points each now, just in case they do get the call.
