Injury Updates (Sep 19)

From Friday, it was reported during the day, that defenseman Grant Clitsome failed his physical to start training camp and he is now expected to miss the entire season.  Clitsome has had back problems in recent years, including a couple of surgeries, and it sounds like he gave it a go, but to no avail.

Last season, Clitsome only appeared in 24 games, picking up 4 assists with the Jets.

The Detroit Red Wings were good enough to provide another update on injured forward Darren Helm, who collided with a camp invite on the first day of training camp on Friday. We already knew that Helm had suffered a concussion and is already going through the NHL protocol, but he had also suffered a separated shoulder in the process as well, which will cost him 2-to-4 weeks.  There was no word on the severity of the concussion that he suffered, so it's hard to say which injury will cost him the most time between the two.

Nevertheless, Helm likely shouldn't be considered for this year's draft, rather you'll want to wait and see what his condition is like at the Waiver Drafts.

Lots of cautious approaches to injuries in training camp and the St. Louis Blues are definitely one of those teams taking it easy on one of their main guys, as Jake Allen, who is battling Brian Elliott for the number one job in the Blues' net this year, took the day off the ice to take care of some back spasms. He's on the shelf on a day-to-day basis for now.  There's no indication that the spasms are all that bad, but they held him off, just in case.

Currently, I have the two goalies in an even split for points this year, while all the magazines out there have Allen likely taking over the helm, as the starter.  This is a good situation to keep an eye on.
