Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Oct 14)

In the St. Louis/Calgary game last night, Flames forward Lance Bouma left the game with a lower-body injury, officially, but there is a suggestion that the injury could be to his knee and it could be pretty bad.  Bouma was apparently hit hard by Blues forward Ryan Reaves, twice on the same shift, before he left for the dressing room.  We'll await further word on his injury before any more reports.

Derek W. finished Week One, just outside of the top 10, but in the first couple days of Week Two, he has settled into 10th, but this injury isn't going to help that cause at all.  Sure, Bouma has yet to score a point, but the longer he's in the lineup, the more chances he gets to pick up valuable points.

Although he isn't off to the worst start among defensemen in the league, the Rangers coaching staff hasn't been terribly impressed by Dan Boyle in the early days of the 2016 season and on Tuesday night, he was a healthy scratch for the club.  Boyle has 1 assist in three games this year, not to mention 4 PIM (for the other pool).

Not too sure if Scott missed Boyle last night, as he climbed into the lead for the Mover & Shaker nod for Monday's Newsletter, now up to 11 points through two nights.  Scott's team also has moved into 8th place in the standings, only 5 points out of 1st.  Boyle was his 14th round pick, 354th overall.

From what I can gather this morning, it sounds like Kevin Shattenkirk pulled up lame after taking a shot in the 2nd period of the Blues/Flames game, signaled to the bench and went straight to the dressing room.  The word after the game was that he was held out for precautionary reasons and that he is dealing with a lower-body issue of his own.  That's about all I've got so far, but I will certainly be keeping a lookout for new information.

Stuart was wheeling and dealing for side bets at the draft and if you haven't stumbled across his side bets page on the standings, it could be good for a laugh.  This is an injury that will have an effect on his overall money wins/losses, if his 4th round pick is out for any substantial amount of time.  He currently sits 17th in the overall standings and is winning one of his seven side bets.

Finally, the Washington Capitals are citing personal reasons for why their biggest star, Alex Ovechkin, was not in the lineup for Tuesday's game at home to the San Jose Sharks; a game they lost, 5-0.  So far, there is no indication of what those reasons are (not that it is any of our business), nor any indication as to whether or not it will cost him any more games on the schedule (which would be nice to know).  The Capitals don't play again until tomorrow (Thursday), home to the Blackhawks, a game they will likely need him for any chance at the 'W.'

Our current pool leader, Neil, seemed to do much better than the Capitals without their top pick, as the 8th overall selection in the draft didn't need to contribute to Neil's 10 points thus far in the week, as he opened up a 3-point lead.  Still, if Ovechkin is out for any period of time, that lead could dry up much quicker.
