Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Nov 11)

Wild defenseman Marco Scandella was away from the team on Tuesday night, when Minnesota took on Winnipeg at home. It sounds like some personal reasons, which may be dating back to September, were the reason for his absence. So, from a pool perspective, it is good that it isn't an injury that is causing his absence.

Of course, thanks to his much needed privacy, we won't know what the extent of his time away will be, but I'm sure that Wes is hoping that whatever it is sorts itself out well for a speedy return.  Wes is off to a good start in the week, finishing up Tuesday night with 9 points and his team moved up to 24th.

If you needed any more proof that the New York Islanders are okay with having three goalies on the roster, they decided to give their number one guy, Jaroslav Halak, another complete night off, as he wasn't asked to dress for the game against San Jose. Thomas Greiss got a scheduled start and J-F Berube was the back-up for the night.  The Islanders pulled out a 4-2 win in the process.

Fortunately for Dale B., his team has qualified for Week Seven in the goalie survivor pool, something I will touch on later on today, so a scheduled Halak scratch didn't hurt early on in the week.  I'm sure Dale would have preferred getting the win, as his team made up points on 1st place, now only sitting 3 points back heading into Wednesday.

Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik reportedly left last night's game against the Detroit Red Wings with a lower-body injury, but that was the extent of what the report had said on Tuesday night. He was going to be re-evaluated on Wednesday, but even then, a full report may not come right away.  We'll likely drop another update on the blog, if we find out that it is something more than a day-to-day issue, otherwise, we'll assume that tough bastard got his shit together and is ready to go for Thursday night in Philadelphia.

It hasn't been a great start to the season for Cindy, as her team has been spinning their wheels in the bottom-third of the standings, but it sounds like help is finally on the way.  A long-term Orpik injury certainly won't help her team's cause, despite him only having 3 points in 14 games so far this year.  I'm thinking the Week Nine Waiver Draft won't come soon enough, that's for sure!
