Halak Placed on the IR

An injury sustained against the Anaheim Ducks has seen New York Islanders goaltender Jaroslav Halak placed on the Injured Reserve, retroactive to December 21st.  There is very little known about the injury, other than it is listed as an upper-body injury, but we don't have any sort of timetable for his return at the moment.  We do know that he is expected to miss tonight's game, home to the Maple Leafs, as Christopher Gibson has been recalled to back-up Thomas Greiss.

Halak is eligible to come off the IR tomorrow (Monday), but whether or not he will is something that hasn't been disclosed.

The Islanders number one goalie has been good for the team this year, averaging 1.2 points per 60 minutes played, picking up 10 wins, 2 shutouts and an assist this year for 25 points, ranking him 84th in pool scoring, as of Sunday morning.

Dale B. is now really under the gun, if his team wants to stay in the money race, as both of his goalies are now on the Injured Reserve.  His team is 9 points out of 3rd place and without any keepers, it will be a struggle to maintain that sort of scoring.
