Injury Prone Hemsky Injured

Right around when the NHL schedule kicked into gear on Wednesday night, it was announced that the Dallas Stars had placed oft-injured forward Ales Hemsky on the Injured Reserve, due to a lower-body injury suffered on Tuesday night against Columbus. Hemsky blocked a Fedor Tyutin slap shot around his foot and was forced from the game prematurely.

The placement on the IR will be retroactive to the 29th, which means he'll be eligible to come off Tuesday, January 5th, when the Stars are in the Big Apple to take on the Rangers.  Whether or not he'll be able to come off the IR is another matter altogether.

Hemsky was a Waiver Draft pick-up of Stuart's, which hasn't quite paid off nearly as well as he would have hoped.  In 11 games since activation, the veteran Czech forward has only picked up 2 assists and really wasn't scoring a great deal beforehand either.

Stuart is still hovering around the money area, still a big week away from jumping up amongst the money teams, but he's in the second group, which reaches from 4th to 7th, not a bad place to start the New Year.
