Morning Player Notes in the Draft (Jan 8)

A lower-body injury was the reason why Dallas Stars' defenseman Jordie Benn was held out as a scratch against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night, but there wasn't a great deal of detail to the injury, so we're only left to assume that he's day-to-day and questionable for the team's next game, Saturday, at home to Minnesota.

Ryan's team has been hanging around in the standings, up around the money conversation, some weeks are better than others, but he's generally just hanging around.  On Friday morning, his team was sitting in 8th place, 24 points out of the money, which is still doable.

The Philadelphia Flyers have been playing a little bit better with rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere in their lineup.  Since his recall, the 22-year old has joined the lineup, he has posted 16 points in 23 games and has turned into a fairly clutch player already.  Unfortunately, the freshman suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday night's game against the Wild and wasn't able to return and his status moving forward is still unknown.  We will likely know more before Saturday, when Philly plays again.

Since he was picked up in the Waiver Draft, Brenda & Seward have collected 8 points in 12 games from the rookie, which has helped them move up to 1st place in the standings and tied for 9th in the rookie race.  A regular point producer like this will be missed, if he is going to be out long-term.
